MDG Campus Challenge mobilizes volunteers

ANÁPOLIS, January 30, 2012 – The opportunity to share learning experiences within the framework of South-South cooperation towards effective implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the approximation between the Portuguese-speaking countries led to the efforts of the Associação Par (Portugal), IIDAC and the Volunteer Program of the Government of Cape Verde, in cooperation with the CPLP - Community of Portuguese Language Countries, to promote an exchange of experiences and youth activism in support of the MDGs.

MDG Campus Challenge, in universities across Brazil, Portugal and Cape Verde, will mobilize volunteer teams towards actions to promote the MDGs in communities as well as the train facilitators who will act as the focal points of the project in the three countries. Among the actions planned by MDG Campus Challenge is an International Seminar of University Volunteers aimed at exchanging key practices and innovative projects to enable the creation of a network of university cooperation for development among CPLP countries.

The experience of IIDAC in the implementation and monitoring of MDG Universities, is recognized as a best practice nationally and internationally by various agencies of the UN system, as well as the recognition achieved by the Associação Par in previous editions of MDG’s Agency, and greets this new cooperation as a further contribution to achieving the MDGs by 2015.
